Make maps adjacent to campaign

There’s been a long-standing discussion about “skip campaign”, but the problem with that is obviously that people will never play the campaign anymore.

However, with maps being a “post campaign” mechanic, this means that people that like maps have to play a significant number of hours in the campaign first. Additionally, people that love the campaign but not the “infinite maps” find themselves out of interesting content after a while.

Perhaps it’s possible to make maps an adjacent experience, similar to optional areas in the campaign.

Something like:
- introduce new map tiers, let’s say 10 per campaign act
- the current 1-15 maps become 61-75 map tiers
- clearing map tiers can unlock the same benefits as playing the campaign, eg the Act 1 “+20 life” and “+2 skill points” bonuses can be obtained through clearing map tiers 4 and 8.
- map tier 10, 20, 30, … are a fight with the final boss of the respective act
- experience gain is similar in both ways of play

I’m sure there’ll be a few issues to work through, but this also offers new options:
- campaign can get longer and longer without it gating “endgame” behind more hours of play
- can bring endgame bosses like arbiter into this every increasing campaign
