The same thing happened too me under the same conditions.

This just happened to me after killing the boss for a friend, no loot dropped, not even rares.

its not a bug, bosses won't drop loot if you the instance owner are not in the instance at the time they are supposed to drop loot... this was done to stop an exploit.
if you die after killing a boss, wait for loot to drop then release and come back to claim the loot. |
